Weightlifting tips before you step into the gym!

I recall my first time stepping into a gym. It was the school gym and I was around 14 at the time. I didn’t know a barbell from a dumbbell, a set from rep and a squat from a shoulder press. Simply put I didn’t have a CLUE!

For many years after this experience much of what I did was just pure trial and error in terms of my weightlifting routines, my muscle building Diet and my lifestyle.

However, along the way my interest constantly began to increase to the degree where I would learn something new every day whether it would be about how to eat and train to increase muscle mass and get stronger.

After a few years I finally got to the stage where I was in excellent shape due to the knowledge I acquired from reading magazines, books, articles on the internet and also talking with other trainers in my gym.

At his stage in my life I was about 20 years and I had been training pretty seriously (4-5 days/week) and consistently for about 4-5 years. I was extremely satisfied with the progress I made particularly at getting bigger because I hated being skinny.

However, at this point, looking back over the past years I felt like if I knew then what I knew when I was a lot more experienced at 20 years old I felt like I could have made significant improvement much faster and with much less wasted effort.

My message to you really if you are a weightlifting beginner is to equip yourself with the best information first before you start to go out and bust you ass in the gym.

Personally, after many ineffective gym sessions I would certainly advocate getting a really great personal trainer who has experience whether it be from competing in a certain sport that you also compete in or from building a great body of his own.

DO NOT follow the advice of random guys at the gym or trainers at the gym who think they know it all!
